South Dakota Sunday: Peaceful Turbulence

As I no longer post to my South Dakota Photo Blog I thought it would be nice to have one day each week that I post a South Dakota scenic or nature photo. To start South Dakota Sunday off I have chosen a few peaceful photos of the turbulent waterfalls on the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls, SD.

Sometimes a scene unfolds before your eyes and it is just impossible to resit capturing the beauty of the moment.

 

Duck Overload

In an effort to reconnect with my camera I recently headed down town to my favorite nature spot.  After nearly four months of not taking any photos I was rather rusty but the ducks didn't seem to mind.

I am happy to say that since this little outing my camera and I are once again on good terms. I look forward to sharing more photos in the near future and to getting around to visit the many great photo blogs I have come to enjoy over the years. 

Refelctions In The Shadows

Crawford's bar & Grill is an upscale eatery on the east side of Philips Avenue in down town Sioux Falls. These photos were taken around 10am last Sunday morning. The street was pretty deserted and this side was pretty dark with the mid morning shadow. When I first realized that I had moved slightly while taking this reflection I thought I had ruined the shot. But, when I pulled it up and realized that it captures exactly how things look when my vision decides to go double (which is more frequent than I would like) I decided I loved the shot.

This single forgotten drink captured the feel of down town that morning.

Making way for 2016

I figure the best way make way for 2016 is to share some of the photos I took this last summer and archive the rest so I can start fresh. I hope you enjoy these.

The down town sculpture walk in Sioux Falls always draws my attention. I am continually awed by the detail the artists incorporate into their sculptures.

The abundance of bright flowers adds to the busy streets charm.

Now top all that off with the intricate details on the historic buildings and your eyes have a virtual feast.

But if it is too busy and noisy don't worry there are plenty of quiet spots in Sioux Falls. Like the Japanese Gardens. My friends little dog really liked this spot.

Or if you prefer wide open tree scattered parks with little quiet nooks of flower gardens try McKennan Park.

Last but not least you can always escape to the Big Sioux River with it's gorgeous Falls that give our little city it's name, for a relaxing moment.

Zombie Apocalypse

Wow, what a wild ride. At least I wasn't attacked by zombies! 

It is so good to be back, I can't wait to get around to see all the great photo blogs I have missed in the last three months. 

Although I have a few posts in draft from before my disappearance I am going to start back with more current shots from last weeks Zombie Apocalypse (well maybe that's stretching it a bit). They may have looked dangerous but they were pretty friendly.

Some didn't even look like zombies, even if they were a bit scary looking.

One was just so cute, I think he came out to give all the small children something nice to think about. 

I can't for the life of me understand why parents would take their small children to a Zombie Parade. I can only guess at the number of children who were plagued with horrific nightmares, especially when I remember how many kids were crying and hiding behind their parents. What are your thoughts, is this type of thing appropriate for all ages?
