Winters Twilight

A golden warmth bathes the land,
as the sun sets on winters twilight.
This photo was taken early in April.
In the Midwest April is more of a winters twilight,
because it is not quite winter but it isn't really spring either.

Hide N Seek

As I was hiking the bright red of this long dead plant caught my eye. But wait, do you see what I see? Two tiny green buds just hiding and biding their time.
If you have a chance hope over to my Sunday in My City post where I shared more of the photos from this hike.

Patiently Awaiting Spring

With temps in the mid 60's last Friday was the perfect day for a bit of nature photography. Of all the photos I took these two macro shots are my favorites.
As I was focusing in on the bud I noticed the beautiful golden colors and distinct lines created in the blur of the other sappers and the tree, so while my cameras focus was the bud, mine was the background.
Now my thoughts as I on that beautiful day.

Eleanor Roosevelt Comes For a Visit

Last week we had a lone visitor in our back yard. This pretty flower popped up and after a bit of research I discovered this is the Eleanor Roosevelt Iris.

I checked on it every day and finally it began to open.

Just look at the gorgeous color!

With the sun shining on the petals these macro's look more chartreuse than purple but oh my it still a beautiful flower, and the detail in it's beard just fantastic.

Unfortunately the end of the week got busy and I didn't get a chance to take more pictures until today. I headed out figuring that I would get some great shots as surely the second bud must be open by now. Much to my sorrow this is what it looked like when I went out to photograph it this morning.

Not sure if I waiting too long or if maybe the sever thunderstorms we had the last two days just ruined this beautiful flower. Oh well, next time I will pay closer attention.

I Am Back

After a very chaotic month I can finally say I am back and will be posting more regularly.
Here are a couple early spring shots taken last month in Norfolk Virginia before I got too busy packing for our recent move back to South Dakota.

I hope all are enjoying a gentle spring and look forward to visiting your blogs and participating in the many photo meme's I have come to love.
