Scavenger Hunt Sunday on Monday

This is my first time joining in the Sunday Scavenger Hunt at Ramblings and Photos, so I do apologize for being a bit tardy and posting on Monday instead of Sunday.





1. Bokeh

This photo was taken on Sunday September 4th during my hike at Palisades State Park.

#2 Process of Elimination

These clocks were part of a display in one of the vendor tents at this last Saturday's Sidewalk Arts Festival. To get this shot I had to time it so none of the many festival goers were in the photo. I could have captured just the clocks from direct on but I liked this angle so had to crop the photo to remove the edges of the display stand and a portion of the tent.

3. Remember

Taken yesterday in front of one of our local fire stations. The firefighters had placed a flag on their lawn for each Firefighter lost on 9/11/01.

4. Statues & Remembrance

I was surprised to discover that I had not taken any photographs of statues last week, so I decided to post this one from the archives of my trip to Washington DC a few weeks ago.  This group of statues depicts children during World War II who froze to death while they were transported from Poland to Germany, as part of the "Arianization" process.

5. Flying Higher
This one was proved to be a challenge. After missing a few shots that would have been fantastic, like a hot air balloon and jets in formation I decided to try and set up a shot. I thought it would be cool to capture one of the kids at the skate park catching air, but alas none got more than a few inches off the ramps. So instead I photographed my daughter swinging higher and higher.

9/11/2001 Tribute

I created the following two composite art pieces as tributes

In remembrance of 

the lives cut short 

the tireless out pour of aid

the horror that gripped our nation

and our ability to survive

May we never forget the devastation intolerance wrought.

Teaching Them Young

Just before we came to the fork in the trail I talked about in yesterdays post A Beautiful Climb we came across these rock climbers. The little one really seemed to like swinging back and forth along the rocky face of the cliff with her dad.

When we got to the top of the steep trail I was excited to see that it came out just before where the rock climbers had anchored their line. Much to the dismay of my daughter and granddaughter I just had to get a shot from above.

Obviously I didn't get my focus right but my girls were not about to let me take any more time, even though I did promise I was being careful hanging onto the tree you see on the left.

A Beautiful Climb

While on our nature walk at Palisades we came to a fork in the trail. My granddaughter asked me which way and I chose the fork leading back to where we had left my husband.

My granddaughter and daughter both thought I was a bit nuts when they saw what was ahead.

Here is a closer look at the tree half way up the gorge in the quartzite cliffs.

The first flight of stairs were steep and partially outside the gorge.

And now for the second half to the climb.

The second stage was much shorter and not as steep. The girls were so out of breath by the time they got to the top they were ready to call it a day. I guess my weekend in DC got me into better shape than I realized because I wasn't even tired. It was so beautiful I didn't even mind the climb.

Tiny Wild Flowers

While hiking at Palisades I noticed these tiny orchid looking wild flowers. The flowers are a little smaller than a dime.

It was a bit awkward but I managed to maneuver my way in between the branches to get some closer shots.

I had to laugh because while I was stuck in between branches I heard one hiker say to another "what is she taking a picture of?" and the other hiker replied "I have no idea, but obviously she knows what she is looking for." I of course turned and pointed out the tiny flowers to them that they had not noticed.
